When you start identifying yourself as a writer, you’re often asked this question, “have you found your voice?” I mean, I get intrigued by this question, because what do you mean by, have you found your voice? What is my voice? What is your voice? What is voice? Is it a particular style of writing? Is it what you choose to focus on? How you choose to express yourself in the written word? What on earth is it?I’m very very confused by this. I mean voice is not something that you find in the lost and found. “ Yes, that is my voice right there behind the blue bag and under the rainbow coloured umbrella. It is nostalgic with hints of drama and poignancy but almost always confident.”
It doesn’t work like that.
Because your voice finds you.
You will instantly realise when it finds you because it will hold on to you, it will hold on to your words and it will flow through your words. And every time you write something it will emerge- distinct, consistent, yours.
