Yes Mr Brussels Sprout?

Dear Listener 

Hello, it’s me, Brussels Sprout. You may have known me from your kitchen, but I’m always hiding under the vegetable drawer because for some reason I’m always at the bottom of it. Maybe because people don’t like me. Yeah, that’s really the truth because people don’t like my flavor for some reason. And to be honest with you, people don’t even know my name. It is really hurtful, you know? That really is sad. 

They call me mini cabbage or little cabbage or they just call me yucky and disgusting and ew. Especially the kids, they can be really nasty. You see, they poke and prod me with their fork all the time. Some will take the courage and liberty to even, you know, taste me a little bit, but again I’m thrown away. I’m relegated to the sides of the plate again, and then I’ll just be sitting there until I am thrown away into the bin … I feel so bad because nobody wants me. 

People use me though as a medium of threat. Like the mums, for example, will always say, you gotta eat this vegetable (yes , this vegetable, they don’t even say my name) otherwise you’re not going to get to go to the party. Sometimes I am used as a bribe. Like… if you do this, then I will ensure that you don’t eat Brussels sprouts. You know what I mean? It’s like a… it’s not a proper bribe, it’s like a backhand bribe , and I think that’s worse because withholding me from someone, is nasty. Am I that bad? Gosh 

So today when someone said they love Brussels sprouts and is their favourite vegetable I was literally doing my little dance in the vegetable drawer. The tomatoes and cucumbers were having a good laugh. They’re obviously the most popular guys what will they know anyway about my despair? 

Coming back to my story,. I was like, am I hearing this right? Wow! Because I really need this kind of confidence boost . I’m so glad for people who really appreciate my value. And u know what  that person actually said that they ate me as a snack. I mean, can you believe it? I don’t have to be forced into people’s mouths here. I’m just going to be loved. Wow . I hope I find more fans like this chap, what a star! I hope he finds his tribe soon and that it grows!
