Instructions On How To Solo Parent

How to solo parent during the summer holidays? (Some instructions in no particular order)

If you are reading this, do not worry. It is not the end of the world. Neither is it the end of the day. But we have screens and of course wine. But jokes apart, how on earth do you solo parent two boys aged 5 and 8 during summer holidays

Think creatively. Make chores fun, like matching pairs from odd socks or arrange the bookshelf in alphabetical order. This will obviously engage your children along with getting your jobs done. This is a win win situation see?

Collaborate with an AI person like Alexa . AI is not always, but sometimes helpful. So of course you have Alexa or Siri or whoever it might be. Alexa is always one of the more reliable ones in my house so we rely a lot on her. She’s good with trivia like ”what is the surface area of the sun?” but fails miserably when asked “when is  papa coming back home?”

Manifest, manifest, manifest. Imagine your partner is in the kitchen with you and you remind them to load  the dishwasher or ask them to get out of the way so you can open the bloody drawer to grab some cutlery.

Make a list of anything and every (little) thing that you’ve done . Why? So that you can share it with your partner when they get back home. Use it to negotiate a night out or even better, a lie in. Keeping score isn’t always bad. Ha!

On a serious note though , be resilient. This too shall pass. Or it may not. But at least we have wine and screens.
